Why Join SgurrEnergy
Independent, engineering-led, and central to the energy transition.
SgurrEnergy is an independent renewable energy technical advisory and engineering consultancy. Joining means working on wind, solar PV, BESS, hydro and hybrid projects across the full lifecycle, from feasibility and due diligence through design, grid studies and asset performance. Because the firm holds no construction or equipment-supply stake, the work rewards technical rigour and honest engineering judgement rather than the sale of a particular product.
What Makes the Work Different
The reasons technical specialists choose SgurrEnergy over an in-house developer, OEM or EPC role.
Genuine independence
No construction arm, no equipment to sell, no asset book to protect. Your conclusions stand on the analysis, which is why lenders and investors rely on them.
Real technical depth
Resource and yield, grid and power systems, civil and electrical design, due diligence, ESG, quality assurance and asset performance sit under one roof, so hard problems get the right specialists.
Whole-lifecycle exposure
Work moves from feasibility and bankability through design, procurement, construction monitoring and into operations, repowering and life extension, rather than a single narrow stage.
Multi-technology breadth
Wind, solar PV, BESS, hydro and hybrid mandates mean you build transferable judgement instead of being locked to one technology.
Direct client contact
Engineers present findings to developers, IPPs, lenders and asset owners, so technical work is connected to the decision it informs.
The Impact You Have
Independent technical advice changes what gets built, financed and kept running.
- Help decide whether a wind, solar, BESS, hydro or hybrid project is technically viable before development capital is committed.
- Give lenders and investors the bankability evidence they need to release finance into renewable infrastructure.
- Improve designs, grid readiness and construction quality so projects perform as promised once energised.
- Extend the productive life of operating assets through performance diagnostics, repowering and life-extension advice.
Independence Is the Career Argument
In much of the sector, technical staff end up justifying a commercial position that has already been taken, whether that is a turbine a manufacturer wants to sell or a scope an EPC contractor wants to lock in. SgurrEnergy is structured the other way around. We are engaged precisely because we have no stake in the outcome, which means our engineers are paid to be right rather than to be agreeable.
For people building a technical career, that has a compounding effect. You develop methods, judgement and a professional reputation that travel with you, and you spend your time on the engineering rather than on internal selling. It is demanding work held to a high standard, and that is the point.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not always. We hire both experienced renewable energy specialists and people with strong, transferable engineering or analytical backgrounds from adjacent sectors. What matters is technical rigour, sound judgement and a willingness to learn the renewable energy context. Graduate and early-career routes are described on our Graduate Careers page.
It means your analysis is not steered by a parent company's commercial interest. SgurrEnergy does not build projects, supply equipment or own assets, so there is no internal pressure to reach a particular conclusion. Your job is to assess the evidence and report it honestly to the client.
No. We work across wind, solar PV, BESS, hydro and hybrid projects, and many of our specialists contribute across more than one technology over time, depending on their discipline and interests.
